Frappuccino Makers are the New Black

Coffee. Hot or cold. Good to the last drop. Denis Leary has a standup about coffee-flavored coffee. If you haven't heard it or seen it on YouTube, stop reading this and watch and listen to The Master in his discourse on what is and isn't coffee. Then come back here.

I never thought I would enjoy cold coffee because I'm such a dedicated hot coffee drinker. Yet, I have found there is nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than the lovely taste of coffee but only in a cold form. In truth, the cappuccino was the gateway drug. A frothy, heavier improvement on the original. The drink that Starbucks made so popular was eventually reduced to being sold in convenience stores for a more reasonable price. This affair continued until the heat became too unbearable take. My buds craved the coffee flavor but demanded coldness.

Then the frappuccino filled the void of lonely summer days. But before long the prices at Starbucks and the long lines grew tiresome and the excitement of having a frappe in the privacy of my own home became enticing.

About ten years ago my friend Jan bought a cappuccino maker for hundreds of dollars, so I was resigned to the acceptance of a one-way love interest, thinking all types of Starbucks drinks would be financially inaccessibly made from home. I was naive in the ways of coffee makers.

The other day I had the irresistible urge to search the Internet for a frappe maker, trying not to get my hopes up for one in a moderate price range. Amazon, the pimp for all needs and wants, again provided me with what I had to have.

Mr. Coffee makes a frappuccino maker. I read the reviews, some good and some not so good. Knowing the company has been around for many years gave me the confidence to make the reasonable purchase of $85. As with all technological advances in the twenty-first century, products become smaller, better, and more affordable.

The top half of the machine brews the espresso and the bottom portion is a blender, where you put the ice and all the magic. In 3 minutes it makes a 20 oz frappuccino. Like an addict I went to the store and stocked my pantry shelf with coffee, filters, vanilla creamer, Reddi Wip and chocolate syrup.

I no longer get dressed up for the love of my coffee life and sneak around to the different Starbucks scattered around town. I lie around the house in my lounge clothes, drinking at leisure, my thirst for mocha frappuccinos satisfied.

I still have the occasional fling at Starbucks if I happen to be in the neighborhood, because who doesn't like to be pampered when the opportunity presents itself. My obssession finally convinced my husband to try it. I'm thrilled to say now we both indulge in the splendor of cold coffee. We have a blended affair together. Life doesn't get much better than the combination of chocolate, coffee and your soulmate.

Happy Cooking!

Mocha Frappuccino

3 Tbsp Espresso or dark roast coffee
Water
Ice
Milk

Make the coffee in the top portion of the frappe maker. In the blender add the ice, milk, creamer, and syrup. Push the button and wait 3 minutes for the magic to become a reality.
